DAVID G. HENRY, SR. - PATENT ATTORNEY * PATENT, TRADEMARK & COPYRIGHT LITIGATION ATTORNEY * INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY LAW PROFESSOR * IP and EXPORT CONTROL CONSULTANT
I HAVE HAD THE PRIVILEGE OF SERVING AS A FACULTY ADVISOR FOR BAYLOR UNIVERSITY'S DELTA DELTA DELTA ("TRI DELTA") CHAPTER. PRISCILLA AND I HAVE CONSIDERED OURSELVES TO HAVE HUNDREDS OF "DELTA DAUGHTERS", AND HAVE SO ENJOYED THE TIME WE WERE ABLE TO SPEND WITH AS INTELLIGENT, TALENTED, CONSIDERATE, FUN AND GENEROUS YOUNG PEOPLE AS ONE COULD HOPE TO KNOW. REGRETTABLY, A CHANGE OF MANAGEMENT AND POLICIES AT TRI DELTA NATIONAL RESULTED IN OUR DEPARTURE AS ADVISORS, BUT WE WILL ALWAYS MAINTAIN THE RELATIONSHIPS THAT WE HAD WITH THE INDIVIDUAL, BELOVED DELTAS WHOM WE ALREADY KNOW, EVEN AS WE SEARCH FOR A NEW WAYS TO SERVE THESE WONDERFUL YOUNG PEOPLE.
BECAUSE OF COUNTLESS QUESTIONS AMOUNTING TO "WHAT HAPPENED?!", I MUST EXPLAIN THAT THERE HAS BEEN MUCH CONFUSION CONCERNING OUR DEPARTURE, IN PART, BECAUSE OF THE VAGUE AND INACCURATE ANSWERS GIVEN BY TRI DELTA NATIONAL TO THE MANY WHO HAVE PROTESTED OUR DEPARTURE. SO, IMMEDIATELY BELOW, I RE-POST OUR FAREWELL VIDEO FACEBOOK POST, AND THE VARIOUS REACTIONS (ON FACEBOOK ALONE) OF DELTAS, ALUMNAE AND PARENTS TO LEAVE NO DOUBT THAT: (1) OUR DEPARTURE WAS NOTHING TO DO WITH THE MEMBERS OR THEIR WISHES; (2) WAS NOT OF BAYLOR'S INITIATION; AND (3) AS BAYLOR INDEPENDENTLY CONFIRMED, INVOLVED NO WRONGDOING, POLICY DEPARTURES, NOR OTHER ISSUES THAT, APART FROM TRI DELTA NATIONAL'S URGINGS, WERE BEHIND OUR DEPARTURE.
In various ways, I am asked essentially this question on a regular basis, usually in the context of puzzlement concerning Priscilla's and my time investment. My answer is a resounding "Yes!". Putting aside the leadership training, the mutual support of the members, the lessons in time management, the wisdom gained in making sometimes tough choices, the individual responsibility for the group's reputation that is instilled in every member, and so many other areas of personal growth that young women gain through Tri Delta membership, the answer remains the same. So, there are many reasons for the answer being "yes", but one need only look to Tri Delta's unrivaled impact on the lives of children and their families to answer this question. Supporting the wonderful young people of Tri Delta, as well as the good that they do for so many others, is "worth" anything that we can contribute.
